Built by the family, it was created to draw attention to our factory shop.
However, because the shell is at the entrance to the town
(on our factory's land), it has in fact grown in status and is now seen
by many as representing the entire town of Riverton. This brought about
the honour of it being one of 10 New Zealand town icons featured
on a NZ Post stamp issue in October 1998.
It has also been included in TV shows and advertising and is a
popular tourist photo spot.
The 'shell' is 4 metres tall, made of ferro-concrete and lined with genuine paua.
